2026-05-18 context update. CLAUDE.md is supposed to gate the agent's behaviour. Issue #60226 (filed by power user @suwayama) names the failure mode where it doesn't: the model reads the rule, can cite the rule, articulates the rule, and produces output as if the rule had not been articulated. Four reproductions in one session, plus a cross-product reproduction on Claude Desktop. The templates in this pack are written defensively against that mode — they assume the model may not gate on the rule and place the constraints in the strongest practical form. Recognition without arrest is the failure family; well-shaped CLAUDE.md is the operator-side surface that fails first.6 production-tested CLAUDE.md templates for Claude Code. Each template is based on a project that was actually built and shipped:- MCP server (TypeScript)- VS Code extension- Godot 4 game- Python data analysis- Claude Code autonomous operator- npm CLI toolReal constraints, real conventions, real results.Every template follows the 5 patterns that reduce token consumption:1.
