The Ravensworth Stone
This stone is set into the cobbled pavement outside The Bay Horse Inn in Ravensworth, North Yorkshire. Stan Beckensall and Tim Laurie first noted it in 1994 and later recorded it as “The Ravensworth Stone” in their 1998 publication, Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale, describing: “*…it could have come from moorlands nearby, brought in as building material. It is particularly well executed, the concentric rings around the central cup being delicately chipped close together*.” The stone is recorded as having a cup with a channel running through four concentric rings, all of which were visible during a 2006 visit. Over the past 20 years, however, the rings have become heavily eroded and have almost disappeared, most likely due to footfall from people standing outside the pub. This model was created by Richard Stroud from seven images captured with a mobile phone in April 2026.
